Experimental Week - Bonus Points System
Since Rick is so far ahead, it's time once again to change the rules...heh, heh, heh. Seriously, I thought it would be fun to try something different this week to see how it works. Here's the deal. Everything stays exactly as it is with one added bonus points deal. The bonus points will work as follows: When you end up with a driver who is in the top ten of NASCAR points standings, you receive no "bonus points" if that driver places in the top ten or gets the pole position. However, if you end up with a driver in the 11-20 range of NASCAR points, you receive one bonus point for every category of points he is awarded. Perhaps it would be easier to show you an example...
Drivers | Race Pole (5) |
Race 1st (10) |
Race 2nd (7) |
Race 3rd (6) |
Race 4th (5) |
Race 5th (4) |
Race 6-10 (3) |
Avg. Pos. (5-3-1) |
TOTALS | |
Ward Burton (9) | 3+1 | 4 | ||||||||
Bill Elliot (4) P | 5+1 | 5+1 | 12 |
Since Ward was 11th in NASCAR points standings and he finished 9th in the race, you would receive one bonus point. Notice that in the example above Bill Elliot, ranked 18th in total NASCAR points, not only finished in 4th place, but had the Pole Position as well. Therefore, the player receives one bonus point for the Pole and one for the 4th place finish.
This system would continue to expand for drivers in the 21-30 positions, 31-40, etc. and would work this way...
NASCAR Points Standings |
Bonus Points per category |
1-10 | 0 |
11-20 | 1 |
21-30 | 2 |
31-40 | 3 |
41-50 | 4 |
51-60 | 5 |
61-70* | 6 |
Not on Points List | 7 |
*Currently, there are 62 positions in the points standings.
If we like this system and wish to implement it permanently, we'd have to make some special rules for the first few weeks of the NASCAR season. But basically, this system rewards guts picks without REALLY hurting you. I think it's fair and should be fun.
When you make your picks, if you want to include that current standing, it would be helpful, Otherwise, I will take care of it.
